Done done and done!

Well, It is finally here! 6 and half years in the waiting… I have officially completed my University Career! (Until I decide to get my Master’s that is.. ) I completed my internship last week a few days before Christmas.

I had the most amazing experience during my internship! I taught in a Grade 5 classroom in an community elementary school. It was challenging but very rewarding. I struggled a few days during my first week or two when it came to classroom management, but once I was settled it worked out really well! I came up with routines of my own, which the students really loved! My Cooperating teacher was amazing! She has been teaching for 28 years, so she knew exactly what to advice when I needed it. The staff and admin were great as well! very welcoming and helpful. I was very blessed to have interned at this school.

I do hope to get a chance to work in a Community school in my teaching career. Until then, I am applying with different school boards, so I can finally start my teaching career! Wish me luck!

Happy New Year Everyone!

Internship!

Well week three of internship is nearly over and I can officially say, I’ve taught the students something! So far anyway…
I took up science and social studies for my first subject last week. It is an integrated unit on the topic of Resources. I’ve been teaching the students about renewable and non renewable resources. We recently learned about the different resources in Canada. We went and did some research on the different resources each province and territory have. We then had a brain break, which I used to see if they understood what I taught. They had to throw a bean bag to a classmate. So they had to say their classmates name then a resource from a Province or Territory. They did it correctly! I was so proud! I was actually very happy that they understood. It has taken me a long time to understand their way of learning.

Anyway, that’s it for now. Until next time!

Internship!

It has been WAY too long since my last post. I’ve been working way too much I think. No excuses!

I heard the greatest news ever on friday! It was a great way to start the long weekend! I’ve been worrying about my placement for my internship for the past week, because I didn’t hear anything about it at all! I hate the waiting game. Anyway, my sister sent me a text message saying that I got a package from the UofR, I knew it was my Internship placement!

I got her to open it for me while I was at work, and (drum roll please…) I am in a grade 5/6 split class at St. Josaphat School in Regina! I was super excited to be place in a higher level than when I did my preinternship. I am really looking forward to using all the knowledge and strategies of teaching I learned this past semester! I am most excited to being able to incorporate technology in the classroom. Don’t be surprised if I start tweeting about lessons and future skype conferences!

I’ve never been so excited to be going back to school in the Fall! I wish I could go back right now and finish my B.Ed!

This song makes me want to get up and dance, which is what I do when I am super excited and happy about something! So enjoy!

Last Day of Classes

Well, it’s finally here! the day I didn’t think would come…THE LAST DAY OF CLASSES! It’s a bitter/sweet feeling. It hasn’t sunk in yet, but today is the last “last day of (university) classes” i’ll have. Although i’m not done my B.Ed until December, these are the last classes i’ll be taking. (it’s been 6 years in the waiting :S )

I feel that this semester has been one of the best semesters i’ve had through out my University Career. I’ve gained so much knowledge from my professors this semester. I feel that this semester has helped me prepare myself as an intern. I am now knowledgeable in the different technologies I can use in the classroom, the strategies I can use for EAL students and the strategies I can use for Special needs students within the classroom.

For my classmates who are done this semester and going into the “Real World”, Good luck to all of you! You are going to be great educators because you have a Degree from the Faculty of Education from the University of Regina. Best of luck with your Future endeavors!

For those who are just starting and are in the middle of the ED program, Don’t worry your time will come! You will eventually see the light at the end of the tunnel and you will all be great educators as well! Good luck!

I hope everyone has a great summer! Stay Safe!!

Major Project

Well as the semester comes to an end, assignments are finally being done and handed in to our profs! This is a great thing! I teamed up with Kristi Wall and Katy Kohli for this project. We didn’t know what we wanted to do for awhile, then we decided that we wanted to do something regarding the SMART board (Interactive White Boards(IWB)). We wanted to make a video of what options we have on the IWB. We thought that Elysse did a great job showing us the different things we can do on the IWB in the classroom.

So we looked online and searched for activities that we can use on the smartboard. We started a Wikispace with the activities we found online. (Anyone is welcome to add any links they have found). We also did a few videos of our favorite activities.

Click here to get to our wikispace “IWB 4 dummies” Enjoy!

Well you can now make your own Google Search Story! Go on to the Google Search Stories page on Youtube and you can make one there easily!

I got this from Free Technology for Teachers.

Here’s one that I made searching ECMP 355!

Extra Time

Well for the past few days, I’ve had quite a bit of time on my hands, and I’ve spend a lot of time on YouTube. I totally forgot about the video below! It is a video of 57 different Youtube users collaborating together to make one video for Haiti. I thought I’d share it.

I think this video show us what social networking can do. We can collaborate with other people to get a message out to the world! They are singing “We are the world”. Enjoy!
